One of my favorite inspirational quotes comes from C. JoyBell C. who said: “It is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight that we force our wings to unravel and alas begin our flight.” How often in life have we been at a precipice with no clear landing in sight and no promise of a smooth trip down? All we know is this is the end of the line and we must jump, open our wings and let the winds of chance carry us! The yoga asana practice has always been a safe place for me to explore the unfolding of my own wings, a place where I am free to make mistakes mid-flight, but where I am also always encouraged and inspired to get up and try again. I find this to be especially true through the practice of arm balancing. Arm balances can be quite daunting (when else are we expected to stand on our hands?!) but once we trust our “wings” and our own strength, then the magic of flight is ours to experience. And sometimes we fall down, and sometimes our ego gets bruised, and it can be frustrating, but oh how glorious it is when we free ourselves of our own self-imposed limits and TRY!
If arm balances seem challenging to you or if you LOVE arm balancing and want to learn more, join me this Saturday, November 1st 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., for Yoga Tricks at Castle Hill Yoga. You may not reach enlightenment just by getting your bum up off the floor, but I promise you will be reminded of your own strength, tenacity and fearlessness. Open your wings…and FLY!
These are really great tricks for people who are starting out with yoga or just simply want to try something new! Love the whole idea of opening one’s wings and flying! 🙂
